DOG SLEDDING TOUR FJÄLL

fjaell

Detailed program

Arrival and departure day for all our tours is Friday.

Day 1: Arrival

You travel individually to Vilhelmina and we organize the transfer from the airport or the bus station to our camp. You are accommodated in a double room where you have time to set up yourself. Afterwards we get to know each other during a cozy dinner. During dinnertime, we present all the options for organizing the week and clarify open questions.

Day 2: Tour preparation and snowshoe hike

After breakfast time, you get to know the dogs - lots of cuddles included. We present you each dog which will accompany you on your adventure for the next few days individually. During the tour you will be a team - you and the dogs - and you will have to rely on each other in many situations. Therefore it is of great importance to us that you get the chance to build a relationship with the dogs in your team.
Afterwards we explore the surrounding nature on a snowshoe or ski hike. You get a first impression of the stunning landscape you will get to enjoy over the next few days. We adjust the length of the tour to your wishes and the current weather conditions. Today is generally a rest day for the dogs. But it is possible that dogs, which did not take part in the previous tour, accompany us on our hike.
Back in the camp, we prepare the tour together: We load all the equipment and dog food onto the sleds and discuss a possible course of the tour. Furthermore you get a detailed introduction into dog sledding. Because dog sledding is a lot more than to just standing on a sled. You learn everything you need such as how to deal with the dogs, how to harness the dogs and how to drive the sled.

Day 3-7: Multi day tour

After breakfast time, we load the dogs and equipment onto the trailer and drive by car towards the nearest fells (35 or 55 km). There, we will go over the last details concerning the tour and then we finally head off with our dog teams into the white landscape. Let the adventure begin! Five unforgettable days with the dogs lie ahead of us. For the best part we will travel through the fells. We plan to travel about 40-60 km per day, which corresponds to 4-6 travelling hours in good weather conditions but can take longer in bad weather. After having arrived at our chosen destination, the dogs are taken care of. Then we prepare our wilderness camp. We spend the night in a simple wilderness cabin without electricity and running water or in a tent. This means that there is a lot to do before it is getting cozy: chopping wood, lighting a fire to heat up the stove and melting snow or ice to get drinking water. The magic word is teamwork.
The tour is organized as a round trip and we return to our parking spot on Thursday. We load everything on the trailer and head back home by car. Back in the camp, we unload everything and take care of the dogs. Then you get to enjoy the well-earned shower. We end the day with a dinner in a cozy atmosphere and let the experience pass in review.

Day 8: Departure

After saying goodbye to the dogs, we organize the transfer back to Vilhelmina and you start your trip home.
