HIKINGWEEK: FJÄLL

autumn

There is a lot to explore along the Wilderness Road (Vildmarksvägen): Trappstegforsen, Dimforsen, Fatmomakke or Stekenjokk - just to name a few of the highlights. But our real designated destination is the stunning mountain world, through which the Wilderness Road leads. We experience this up close and directly on an approximately 70 km long multi-day hike.

Detailed program

Arrival and departure day are freely choosable upon consultation.

Day 1: Arrival

You travel individually to Vilhelmina and we organize the transfer from the airport or the bus station to our camp. You are accommodated in a double room where you have time to set up yourself. Afterwards we get to know each other during a cozy dinner.

Day 2: Husky trekking

Today you get to know our fourlegged companions. After some first cuddles and dogkisses, we load the dogs into the car and drive approx. 15 min to the base of our backyard mountain Björnberget. You get a hikingbelt and the dogs get their harness. Afterwards we begin our hike up to the highest point. The trail takes us over hill and dale and it can sporadially be quite wet. Good and waterproof hikingboots are key. But the effort is totally worth it: During good weatherconditions, we will be rewarded with a spectacular 360° panorama.
After a traditional swedish «fika», we hike back to our starting point. In the evening we prepare the multi-day hike together. Based on today's experiences with a dog on the hikingbelt, you decide whether a fourlegged friend should accompany you on the multi-day hike or rather not. You have to consider that the strength of the dogs is very pleasant on ascents, but the dogs do not make any difference whether it goes up or down - they pull no matter what.

Day 3-7: Multi-day hike in the mountains

The starting point of our multi-day hike is directly on the Vildmarksvägen, the highest paved road in Sweden. The Vildmarksvägen takes us through the spectacular mountain scenery of Swedish Lapland. Some of the highlights along our route are: Trappstegsfors, the spectacular Marsfjäll, Dimfors, view from Stalonberget, Stekenjokk and the Sami settlement of Fatmomakke. According to your wishes we will make stops along the way and enjoy the fantastic nature.

Overnight day 3: Tjåkkele stuga (9 km)

After we have had our fill of Vildmarksvägen, we start our multi-day tour directly near the Stekenjokk. We follow an easy to hike trail and after 8 kilometers we arrive at our destination for the day, Tjåkkele Stuga. The wilderness cabin is picturesquely situated by a river in a small valley.

Overnight day 4: Åtnik stuga (17 km)

Our hike takes us along the Norgefararleden. Norgefararleden used to be a trade route between Klimpfjäll and Mosjoen in Norway. Today the area is used as a summer grazing area for reindeer, so the chances of sighting(s) of the plush four-legged friends are very good. After about half of the trail we leave the Norgefarleden and follow the Lapplandsleden, which climbs up into the Lasterfjäll, passing old (and crumbling) Sami huts. Above the tree line we enjoy the view and descend on the back side of the fell back into the forest landscape until we finally reach today's destination Åtnikstuga after about 17 km of hiking.

Overnight day 5: Ljusliden stuga (22 km)

We start today's hike along an easy forest trail, which we leave after just under 10 km in Vardofjäll. Now we leave the Lapplandsleden and the hike becomes more challenging. The trail leads us over hill and dale and especially through swamps. Where the path was well used up until now and wet passages were bridged with wooden planks, you now realize that you are really alone in the wilderness. The traces of human civilization become limited, except for the trail markings, and the feet can (and probably will) get wet. But our efforts are rewarded with spectacular views and untouched nature. The destination of our hike is the Ljusliden cabin, which is located on the shore of Lake Ransarn and offers a fantastic view of the surrounding mountains.

Overnight day 6: Skible or Tjåkkele stuga (11.5 or 21 km)

Still without a beaten path, but with spectacular views, today's hike leads us slowly back to the vicinity of our starting point. The first kilometers lead us along the banks of the Ransarn and then we roughly follow the river Ransarnån. On both sides of the river there are mountain ranges, which give us great views again and again. Depending on our mood we will either spend the night directly at the river Ransarnån in a simple wilderness cabin or we will extend the hiking day and hike back to Tjåkkele stuga.

Day 7: Stekenjokk (9 or 19 km)

Today our hike takes us back to the starting point at the Stekenjokk plateau. Again we drive on Vildmarksvägen and have the opportunity to visit the highlights that we may have skipped when driving up.

Overnight stays

The plan is to spend the night in simple wilderness cabins. However, these can not be reserved and it may happen that they are occupied by other people. For this case we carry a tent, which we can put up in any place.

Day 8: Departure

After saying goodbye to the dogs, we organize the transfer back to Vilhelmina and you start your trip home.
